About The Journey of Birth and Sarah Segal
I have been working with childbearing families for seven years, both in Canada on Vancouver Island and overseas. As a DONA certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, a Breastfeeding Counsellor and a Birthing From Within® Mentor I am actively involved in the birthing community in Nanaimo; I coordinate the Nanaimo Doula Collective and work at the Nanaimo Mother and Baby Society, I offer postpartum doula support through the Infant Development Program at the Nanaimo Child Development Centre and I offer prenatal and parenting classes to new and expectant parents at MidIsland Midwifery Clinic. I am passionate about supporting families through the transition into parenthood and love to bring honour and celebration into their journey.
The Journey of Birth is the culmination of my vision to offer professional, high quality support and education to pregnant women, new mothers and their families in the Nanaimo area. I feel blessed to have established a strong foundation for my work in the local birth community and endeavour to continue offering my dynamic skills to birthing women and their families.
When not busy with my rewarding work, I am mothering my 6 year old and newborn daughters and enjoying the company of my partner. I am an island girl, born on Vancouver Island and currently living in Nanaimo. My love of travel has taken me around the world, and enriched my understanding of different cultural approaches and the uniqueness of each family I work with. I love photography and good food, and can often be found in the kitchen whipping up something delicious- I'm known for my homemade cheese and bread! I love being outside, hiking, climbing, swimming or just relaxing in the yard.
